I did things today. That should be the goal of any day I guess, so
mission accomplished.
At work today I finished updating my spreadsheets for homebound so
now I'm all set for next month.
I spent time reading up on budget stuff for my class next month. I
have been at a bit of a loss in how I wanted to teach the class but
now I think I am just going to cover a bunch of different ways to
make and keep a budget, along with why it is important to make one.
So today I started reading up on different theories and methods. I
didn't write anything down but I've made a start.
I did more research for the patron yesterday who was interested in
military endorsements for presidential candidates. I ended up
finding some more information so I sent that his way. Wikipedia had
the most information, and I let him know I couldn't vouch for its
accuracy but it was at least a good starting point.
Thirty minutes of my day was spent coming up with a list of authors
who write urban romance with another librarian. There might be
another name for the genre but urban fiction is a thing and I figure
romance novels that feature non-white individuals could be considered
urban romance. I have no actual interest in romance novels but that
is one of my displays this month and I thought I would try to change
things up. So I've included urban romance along with supernatural
and fantasy stuff, trying to go along with Halloween for the latter.
Books have been checking out but I didn't actually make note of the
ones that strayed from the norm for the display so I have no idea how
well it's going over. No one has complained yet so that's something.
I helped the lady who asks for ILLs and purchase requests all the
time with the microfilm machine again. It was a little less
hands-off than last time. Progress.
I spent forty-five minutes helping a lady with her new Kindle. Or at
least trying to help her with her new Kindle. It was a little too
new and she hadn't registered it yet and I couldn't get it to connect
to the wi-fi. We don't have a password but you have to agree to our
terms when you first connect. And you can't get past the
registration screen on the Kindle until you register. I also don't
know if you could connect after it is registered, I'll need to ask
around and see if anyone has had luck with that. Or maybe take my
Kindle in.
Anyway, we couldn't do that but I created a new Amazon account for
her by creating a new Gmail account for her. She had an Amazon
account years ago but didn't remember the password and she couldn't
use her email account because it was used to set up her original
Amazon account. And we couldn't reset the password because she
didn't remember the password for her email. Very reminiscent of the
last patron I tried to help with a Kindle.
But I got those accounts for her and then we set up accounts with our
ebook services and I showed her how to use them. It was a lot of
information and it is all counting on her being able to register her
Kindle when she gets home. My fingers are crossed for her but I also
pointed out our phone number, email address, and chat service so if
she has problems she can try those options first before having to
drive the thirty miles into town again.
And that was pretty much my day at work.
Tonight kind of just disappeared from me. Read a little bit, watched
YouTube videos, clicked around on the Internet, and now I'm finishing
up a Star Trek movie. I only vaguely remember the others but
this is the best one so far. The action is great and then there's
the Beastie Boys. When it's over I may read some more but then I'm
going to bed. I get to sleep in tomorrow and I am looking forward to
that.
