I got a decent amount of sleep last night but the first full day of
school kind of kicked my butt. I would say this was mostly due to my
new lenses. The main problem seems to be with the right one and not
too long into the day I was rocking a pretty sweet headache behind my
right eye. I took an ibuprofen but didn't really feel any relief
until the end of the day.
I spent my day updating Odyssey. I didn't expect that to be such an
ordeal, and I didn't remember it taking so long last year, but good
grief. I thought all the grade levels would automatically update so
all I would have to do was delete classes from last year and make new
ones for this year. But the grade levels didn't update. I had to
edit each kid, not only changing the grade they were in, but also the
grade level for each individual subject they had access to. It was
such a tedious endeavor. An example of all the clicking for one kid:
click 'Edit', click 'Grade', click on the appropriate grade, click
'Subject', click each subject (up to seven or eight) and click the
appropriate grade, click 'Done', click on two random menus so the
next option I needed would become available, click 'Actions', click
'Add to Class', click on the class, click 'Add'. I did that for
every kid from first grade through sixth grade. I also had to put in
transfer requests for all the new kids, or make new profiles if they
were coming from out of the district, and then go through the same
process once they showed up at our school. I also had make new
profiles for all of the kindergarteners. I think there are fifty or
so this year. I lost count. I started working on it not long after
eight o'clock and worked on it fairly consistently until four
o'clock. It made for a long day of staring at a computer. Tomorrow
I need to update Type to Learn
which will hopefully not be as bad as Odyssey. I still need to load
programs and and printers onto laptops, cut paper squares for
Kindergarten, finish editing the reading thing for one of the
resource teachers, and make a shortcut link for the lab computers.
My goal is to have all of that done before the weekend. We'll see
how that goes. I probably won't get the shortcut link thing done
(unless I just reuse the one from last year).
After school I briefly spoke with my
fifth grade teacher friend before I got a ride with the librarian to
go to the tech meeting. When we got there all the lights were off
and the library was empty. It was a bit eerie. We went to the
office and learned that the meeting wasn't until the 27th.
Somehow we both managed to get that completely wrong. Like not even
close. I looked back at the email and I think the confusion came
with the writing of the date '27 Aug 14'. I completely missed the
'27' and kind of ignored the '14', focusing on 'Wednesday' which was
mentioned shortly after, and kind of assuming the '14' was a '13'.
There was a lot of mental gymnastics going on, that's all I have to
say.
After the failed meeting, I went and
picked up Chipotle before heading home. My burrito ended up being a
tad small but it was wrapped well, for the first time in forever, and
I didn't have to re-wrap it when I got home. And it tasted good. So
I can't complain too much.
I didn't really do much with my
even. Just watched YouTube videos and a bit of a livestream. At the
moment my head is feeling better and my glasses aren't as blatantly
annoying. I can still kind of feel something with my right eye, and
if I move my head too much or too fast I get a bit dizzy, but it is a
lot better than it was at work. Positive signs I think. Hopefully
tomorrow will be headache free. Now I think I am going to read for a
little bit before going to bed.
