Good grief, it's October. Time seems to be moving exceedingly fast
these days. The summer completely disappeared and now September has
flown by as well. Ridiculous.
This morning I woke up early and spent at least a few hours cleaning
my house. It was not dirty but it was messy. The distinction being
I just had a lot of stuff everywhere. I've been meaning to pick the
place up but kept putting it off. I used the visit from the cable
company as incentive to finally pick things up. My living room,
office, and kitchen now look a lot better. A positive of having my
internet crap out on me. I can now have guests over and not feel
bad, as long as they don't look in my basement where I have a pile of
boxes. And a room that still has the carpet pulled up. But let's be
real, I'm not going to go out of my way to have guests over.
Before lunch I took a shower and during lunch I finished the first
disc of the first part of Durarara,
the anime I borrowed from a fellow librarian. I'm still not sure how
I feel about it. We'll see if I can finish the second disc, which is
also the last disc of part one.
After lunch I read for awhile, took
a sort of nap here and there but not really because it was more like
just laying there for a little bit before coming up with something
else to do. That something else ended up being cleaning my fountain
pens. Something I haven't actually done before. Turns out it is
kind of a pain in the butt. On the pens I couldn't take completely
apart it felt like there was a never-ending well of ink hidden inside
of them. I would flush them out repeatedly and there would still be
enough ink to write. So I would flush them out some more but when I
put them in a cup of water more ink would come out. It was like a
magic trick. I got there in the end but I'm going to try and keep
the number of pens I have inked up to a minimum.
At 3:50PM the cable guys showed up.
They were younger and into video games so we talked about that while
they looked at the router. The router ended up not being the issue,
which is good because it means I don't have to pay for the visit (I
think) and I don't have to buy a new router. After that they went
outside and eventually tracked down the issue. The cable bringing
the internet to my house was flooded, preventing a signal from
getting through. First a flood in my basement and now a flood stole
my internet. I'm beginning to dislike water. I guess squirrels will
occasionally chew on the cables and that lets water in. Thankfully
they were able to run a new line to my house. At the moment it is
running through the yard and they said it could typically take six to
eight weeks to get buried but they had to run this one over a city
sidewalk so they said it could be buried as early as tomorrow. I
just imagine it getting run over by a lawnmower or chewed on by
another squirrel.
I was going to roast some vegetables
and scramble some eggs for dinner but then I saw one of the ads I
found while cleaning for a new pizza place. They offer a margherita
pizza and I have always wanted to try that, so I was sold. But they
offered the option to customize it so I ended up adding artichokes.
The delivery ended up taking at least twenty minutes longer than
estimated but the pizza was tasty. And it was super simple in terms
of ingredients. I really need to start making my own pizza. It
would be a lot cheaper.
While I ate dinner and throughout
the rest of the night I tried to catch up on missed YouTube videos.
I did my best but there were so many videos, even when I tried to be
very selective. I felt so productive today without the internet. I
feel like maybe I need to turn the internet off during the day on the
weekends. Devote that time to more productive pursuits. That is a
thing that should happen.
While watching videos I worked on a
note to my friend and then played Terraria.
That game is such a time sink. You go down into a cave and then the
cave keeps going and you can't just stop because when you log out and
back in you are back at your spawn point. So you can stop in the
middle of cave unless you want to spend half an hour finding your way
back the next time you log in.
And now, as the grandfather clock
chimes eleven o'clock, I'm going to wrap this up so I can record my
audio journal and go to bed. Sleep sounds nice.
