We're going to make this quick because it is one o'clock in the
morning and I have to wake up at seven o'clock.
This morning I slept in until eight o'clock and then did some stuff
probably and eventually played a little Terraria before
getting ready, eating lunch, and going to work. One of my fellow
librarians put out a the whiteboard this morning to let patrons know
about the drop-in this this afternoon. I decided to put out our
Adulting posters as well but couldn't find them. The teen librarian
was also at a loss so we just printed new ones. They were in the
atrium all day and I don't think they got anyone else to come, but it
was better than doing nothing.
Three people came to the tech drop-in and we helped two of them for
nearly the whole two hours. One of them was a former teacher, I
think, but I couldn't remember what she taught and if I had her or my
sister did. And I wasn't going to ask her. Her and her husband
ended up having questions about all sorts of things and she had a
note card with everything written down, which was nice because we
could just go through and check things off.
When I got back from dinner I was on desk for an hour and then the
teen librarian and I set up for the class. We ended up knocking that
out super quick and then sat around and talked for awhile before the
presenter showed up, and then there was more talking while we waited
for people to show up. My friend was actually the first person to
arrive and I'm glad she came because for the first five or ten
minutes of the class there were only two other people besides my
friend. One person showed up later, bringing the total up to four.
Not a great turnout and I'm not sure what is happening. My theory is
that the first two classes were offering “practical” life skills,
making a budget and fixing a car. These last two classes have been
more important in my opinion, mental health and learning to consume
news more intelligently, but people don't seem to be interested in
that. Or willing to admit they need help in those areas of their
life. Which is a shame. But I'm glad people showed up.
After the class my friend and I talked for a little bit and then she
hung out while I finished up the last forty minutes of work. When we
had closed I met her out in the parking lot, we went and got
slushies, and then went back to my house. We sat and talked until
almost one o'clock in the morning. We talked about all sorts of
stuff, from super serious stuff to the not so serious stuff. It was
good times as always. As I've said before, I like engaging in good
conversations, and I don't get to have them as often as I would like.
Now I'm going to quickly record my audio journal and make it to bed
before two o'clock.
