This morning I woke up and thought about reading a book because I
have several checked out at the moment but instead I chose to go back
to sleep. I'm okay with that decision.
It was back to business as usual at the reference desk today, which
made it seem oddly quiet because we didn't have a million questions
about the solar eclipse. It left so much time for other activities.
But I didn't really accomplish much with that time. I worked on my
tutorial throughout the day but I'm really just at the slide making
phase so it doesn't really feel like much is happening.
We got probably the best reference question today from an old man in
his 80s. He had a really loud voice, which made it better, because
half the library could probably hear him. He walked up to the next
with his walker and practically shouted “I have a question you
wouldn't believe... anal penetration.” And then crickets could be
heard as the librarian on desk and myself waited to see where he was
going with that. It turns out him and his friends get together a few
time a week to, as he put it, “drink coffee and lie to each other.”
One of his friends brought up how turkey buzzards [vultures] eat
dead animals by going through the back door, and the patron didn't
believe it so he came to the library to ask us. I had to go on my
walkthrough but the librarian at the desk looked for a solid ten or
fifteen minutes and didn't find anything conclusive. Only at the
library.
Tonight we had our first adulting class and I think it went pretty
well. We had twenty-two people registered and fourteen showed up,
and we're going with an overall attendance of sixteen because the
teen librarian and myself sat in on the presentation and took notes.
I think the presentation may have been a little broad and a little
too technical at times, but overall I think it was good and the
patrons seemed to get a lot out of it. Now I just need to find
someone to teach the next class.
When I got home I ate a snack, watched YouTube videos, and started
writing this. I open tomorrow, and that always sucks after closing,
but I should be able to make it to bed by midnight if I don't get
sidetracked before recording my audio journal. Last night I fell
down an hour-long beatboxing championship rabbit hole. It was worth
it but good grief.
