July 9, 2014

I slept alright last night. At least well enough that I can't remember anything about it.

When I was walking from my car to the theater this morning a kamikaze bird buzzed the tower that is my face. It came within inches of my eyeball and I could almost feel the wings brush my ear as it went by. It was moving so fast and so close to my head. The adrenaline definitely kicked in and an seemingly involuntary “what the fuck?” came out of my mouth. It came at me a couple more times before I made it inside but never as close as the first time. It was protecting a nest, which the managers usually knock down (before eggs are laid) but they apparently missed it this year.

Work today was nothing special. A distinct lack of work occurred, especially compared to all the work I did yesterday getting the preshow fixed. I guess I did switch some trailers and delete and transfer stuff but that was maybe a half hour of work. I read a little bit but I spent most of my time cross stitching. I found that if I cross stitch for too long without taking a break then I start to get dizzy. That might have been my problem the other day. I took several breaks today where I just got up and walked around for a bit, trying to focus my eyes on stuff at varying distances. I was almost able to finish my book cross stitch. I'm on the last word and then I have to stitch the books. Or not. I kind of like it with just the words so I'll have to think about it some more. It shouldn't take me too long to finish that tomorrow, and I'll be at the theater an extra hour with the kids show, but I think I'm going to take a day off from cross stitching after I finish. Jump back into some books and maybe some left-handed writing. Possibly drawing.

At Chipotle tonight I almost walked out without my burrito. I thought the girl put everything in the bag, and she did too when she slid it to me, so I picked it up and turned to go. It felt quite a bit lighter than usual and she immediately called out to me. The dude at the end of the line (a new guy) was just standing there with my burrito open. The girl ahead of him in the line had put on what I wanted, and he was there when I told her what I wanted, but I guess he was waiting for a confirmation from me. And then he did a very sloppy job of wrapping the burrito together. I'm no expert myself, I just eat the things, but I was able to fix it when I got home. Also, the guy at the register, also new, confused me with someone who apparently goes to Chipotle at least three times a week. I just rolled with it to avoid the awkwardness. In the end, the burrito was good, so I can't complain too much. And I think my mom may have actually enjoyed at least parts of the videos I showed after dinner.

Tonight I watched the Argentina v. Netherlands game. I wanted the Netherlands to lose because I'm tired of watching Arjen Robben dive. He did go down a few times but he has had worse matches. Other than two or three Argentinian players most likely getting concussions, it was a fairly lackluster game. Then it went into thirty-minutes of overtime and eventually into the penalty shootout. I was worried about this because throughout their games it always seemed like the Argentinian goalie had just barely been hanging in there. But then in the shootout he came out of nowhere and blocked two kicks. It was astounding. Maybe not in the most literal sense of that word but it was pretty close to incredible. Argentina will now be facing Germany for the final on Sunday. Once again, I want Argentina to win. And I want Messi to run his ass off and score a million goals. The Netherlands will be playing Brazil on Saturday and I want Brazil to win because I still don't like the Netherlands (which is a shame that one or two players diving can affect my opinion of the whole team but one or two bad apples sours the bunch, or whatever that phrase is). It would also be nice for Brazil to get a little redemption after getting their entire ass handed to them by Germany.
