Going to bed at nine o'clock last night was a disaster. As of late I
seem to have a touch of insomnia. I've only had it once before as a
side effect to medication and it is terribly inconvenient. The last
few nights I have been incredibly tired but wide awake at the same
time. Last night I laid in bed until about 10:30PM, mainly just
thinking about all the random things and listening to the storm rage
outside my window. I think it was around 10:30PM when the power had
gone out for the third or fourth time so I decided to get up and walk
around around for a little bit. I found Tanner in the tub, where he
ended up spending the rest of the night. Around eleven o'clock I
went back to bed and laid there for another hour or so before getting
a book. Rather than grabbing one of the several I'm currently in the
middle of, I started reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering
Genius by Dave Eggers. I've
heard good things. I didn't actually make it to the actual story,
just all the stuff on the Roman Numeral pages. It was all pretty
entertaining and to be fair to me, there was a lot of it to read.
Around an hour in I called it quits because I had half-heartedly
yawned a couple of times. Sometime after one o'clock I eventually
fell asleep.
The power going out at my house
meant it also went out at the theater last night. This managed to
screw up all of the preshows and none of them were working today. I
ended up spending forty-five minutes on the phone with Technicolor
trying to figure things out. This involved me on the ground in the
dark unplugging different network stuff trying to reset it, all in
the stagnant heat of the warm side of projection. I was up and down
several times and moving around and sweating and it sucked. But, we
eventually got the preshows working again, so it was worth it. I
guess. I spent the rest of my time reading a bit but mostly cross
stitching. I should be able to finish my book cross stitch tomorrow.
I need to cross stitch more. It is a lot of fun seeing a pattern be
realized on the cloth.
My grandma and aunt are back in town
for a couple of days so tonight I went over with my mom and sister to
see them. We sat around an talked for nearly three hours. My
grandma seems to be enjoying her time down with my aunt and uncle so
that was good to hear.
When I got home I started watching
the Brazil v. Germany World Cup semifinal game. Yikes. In the first
thirty minutes of the first have, over the course of eighteen
minutes, Germany scored five goals. Four of those goals were scored
in six minutes. It looked like a world class soccer team playing
against a bunch of fifth graders. It was incredible and unbelievable
and all the other words you can think of to describe one team being
completely overrun. Brazil started the second have looking like they
might know how to play soccer but they ended up allowing two more
goals, only scoring one of their own in the 90th
minute. It was rough. According to the stats, Brazil had not
allowed seven goals since 1934 when they lost a game 8 to 4. They
hadn't lost a competitive match at home since 1975. The last time
they lost 6 to 0 was in 1920. A bit of a shame for the host nation.
I was excited to watch the game for the first few minutes because
both teams were doing a good job handling the ball, both with fairly
even possession, and then the Germans started scoring goals.
