April 26, 2013

Today was a pretty decent day. In the morning I read with kindergarteners and helped out with literacy centers. Then I had one MAP test. I spoke with the principal and at some point in the near future, probably Monday, she wants me to start compiling test scores (MAP, State Assessment, Dibels) for all the kids so I can put them on index cards. I'm assuming for their file. A bunch of busy work but I am kind of looking forward to it. It will give me something to do.

This afternoon there was a basketball game, kids against adults. The last time I played basketball was in ninth grade and dislocated my right knee. So I opted to just be a spectator. The classes were lined up on either side of the gym and on the stage and kids and adults rotated in and out. I think each class had one team except for sixth grade because there is only one sixth grade class. The best outfits go to one of the fifth grade teachers and my para friend. The fifth grade teacher was wearing sweats, a t-shirt, and a headband. The headband was awesome. I didn't even recognize my para friend at first. She recently cut her hair shorter so that didn't help, but she was wearing a tie-dye school shirt, over-sized shorts, knee-high striped socks, and a bandanna on her head. She kinda looked like a dirty hippie. There were also cheerleaders, two paras and the sixth grade teacher. The sixth grade teacher was doing it because she likes the attention and thinks she is young. I also think one of the paras was annoying her because she was stealing her thunder by being a funny cheerleader. I have no idea what the final score of the game was but it was a lot of fun to watch. The game was over right around 2:30 and after sending some PDFs to one of the first grade teachers, I had nothing to do the rest of the day, so I hung out in one of the kindergarten rooms.

After work I took a short nap that I wish was much longer. But it wasn't and I had to make dinner and then go to work at the theater. I continued reading the next book club book and also watched Pain & Gain. I missed the beginning but the rest of it was hilarious. During the first set the audience appreciated most of the humor but during the second set, the audience pretty much only laughed at Mark Wahlberg, completely ignoring most of The Rock's comedy. I enjoyed the movie though. Hard to believe it is somewhat based on a true story.

Tomorrow I get to work a double because one of the managers is getting married and half the theater asked off. I didn't even know the wedding was tomorrow until I saw the schedule and then was informed by my friend. I don't mind that I wasn't invited because the fiance (who worked at the theater for years) annoys me and I'm not a big fan of weddings, but I am pretty sure I have known the manager longer than anyone at the theater, including the fiance. It seems a little strange that I didn't get an invite but I guess we're only work friends. No problem with that. Other than having to work a double to cover for everyone who is going. That kind of sucks. I still hate the theater.
