The vast majority of my day at work is escaping me. Nothing much
happened outside of the same old stuff. This past weekend seemed to
go by in the blink of an eye and today just felt weird because of
that. Like I shouldn't actually be back at work yet. But I was, and
I didn't really do anything.
I read with kindergarteners this morning and had my second grade
reading group after that. That was a bit of a struggle because one
kid had missed a day and another kid missed two days. Normally this
wouldn't have been much of a problem but we just started reading a
chapter book, Freckle Juice,
and it is hard to do group work when everyone is on a different
chapter.
After work I came home, checked my
email, and immediately headed back across town because I got an email
saying the case plan for my volunteer thing was at 4:30PM. I thought
it would be at 5:00PM so reading the email at 4:20PM was a bit of a
surprise. But I made it there on time.
The main goal for the new volunteer
kid is to get him ready to age out of the system. It was brought up
at the case plan today that the kid and the foster dad had talked
about the possibility of the foster dad adopting the kid. They are
both on board with this but the case worker mentioned after
conference call ended with the kid and foster dad, that even if all
goes well it probably wouldn't go through until close to the kid
aging out of the system. It will apparently take at least a few
months to get the process started and will take quite awhile after
that. And the mom still needs to relinquish her rights, or have them
terminated. I think it is a good sign that the kid and foster dad
are willing to consider taking things to the next level. This
placement seems like a better fit than the last two or three
placements that didn't last very long. Hopefully things keep going
along that path.
Tonight I finished playing To
The Moon. I thought I was close
to the end but it turns out I was only just past halfway. But I kept
going until the end, mainly because I had no idea where the end was
and I wanted to know what was going to happen. It was actually kind
of a beautiful game, combining the art, music, and story. There was
sad stuff, which was obvious considering the premise of the game, but
there was also a lot of comedic relief, which was much appreciated.
I don't know that I will ever play it again because it took about
five hours to get through, but if they could single out the story so
I could just watch that, I definitely would. All-in-all, I enjoyed
the game. I think it would make a good movie but it could also make
a horrible movie, so fingers crossed that doesn't happen. I am
looking forward to the sequel, which is apparently supposed to
happen.
YouTube's April Fools joke is
nominating every video ever uploaded to YouTube for the Best Video
award. And they are committing to it. The idea is that YouTube was
started as a contest to find the best video. They are going to
delete all the videos at midnight and then spend the next ten years
reading off the nominees for twelve hours a day, until they announce
the winner in 2023. At which point it will be the only video on
YouTube. Genius. I just started watching the nominee announcement
stream but it has apparently been going on for almost eleven hours,
with another hour to go. The announcements are worth watching
because the two presenters are reading the video title and the
description, verbatim. Typos and poor grammar in all.
Now I think I am going to verbally
record my day and then go to bed.
