April 2, 2014

I like that as a society we have gone to quite a bit of effort to portray smoking as a bad thing but now we have e-cigarette companies spending quite a bit on marketing, trying to make it look cool again.

After getting to work this morning I went down to talk to one of the second grade teachers and found a group of people in the other second grade room. I was drawn in by the sound of a blender. A number of the staff are currently doing a fit club thing and I guess every week they try a different smoothie. This morning they were having one that at least consisted of spinach, bananas, grapes, and pineapple. It looked green and chunky. They offered me some and I politely declined before mentioning to the one second grade teacher that I would be able to do the spelling test this morning because testing had been canceled. Then I went across the hall to her room to update the testing software on her laptop cart just in case we need to use them. If we ever start testing again.

When there weren't classes in the lab, I spent most of the rest of my day scanning and editing pictures. I got several more today but there are still quite a few to go. I also added borders and shadows to all of the sixth grade portraits for this year in case I decide to add those to the slides. At the very least I figured I could use those on one slide for the kids who end up not having baby pictures submitted so they can be in the slideshow. It won't be their fault if they don't have pictures and they shouldn't be penalized for it.

While one of the fifth grade classes was in the lab the teacher and I had typing test races while her class worked on Type To Learn 4. We both had some embarrassing ones but my best speed was 72wpm and her's was somewhere in the 60s. We both got trumped by a para who managed 84wpm on her second try. Beginners luck. I think the teacher is faster but she was also having to interact with her kids while she was typing, so I got lucky.

While one of the fourth grade classes was in the lab I talked to one of the paras and a couple teachers about finding a wife for me. It was pretty entertaining. The fourth grade teacher was telling me all about her friend who teaches high school Spanish down where my friend lives. I currently have no real hope of meeting a girl, so at some point I will probably have to be set up with someone, and if that involves conversations like the one today, I'm in, because it was hilarious.

We had another yearbook meeting this afternoon. And again it was just me and the one mom who worked on the yearbook with me last year. One of the other mom's said she would be available all day but didn't respond to the email about today's meeting until a half an hour after it started. The whole idea behind using the online service this year was so multiple people could work on the yearbook at the same time. And so far it has still just been the two of us. The PTO is also still short on funding so we might need to cut pages, which would suck. But possibly easy because we haven't gotten a lot of pictures for the candid pages.

My mom is going to a play tomorrow so we had Chipotle night tonight. She actually enjoyed some of the videos I played and pictures that I showed. So that was a success. Later in the night I watched a Foo Fighters concert, a Nirvana concert, and practiced the piano. I think I am going to start saying piano because every time I say 'keyboard' I just think of a computer keyboard. Although I doubt the habit lasts much longer so I really don't need to worry about it.

Testing has been canceled for the rest of the week so tomorrow will just be a regular day. So that's exciting.
