Today was a pretty boring day at
work. I had two classes first thing in the morning but the third
class never showed up so I had a lot of time alone. I cleaned off
and reorganized my desk, which was nice. I also went through a box
of random paper that I have used for scratch paper over the years,
sorted it out, cut the useable paper in half for scratch paper and
recycled the rest. I figured I might as well get it all over with at
once. I felt good about it.
I also had some time to do school
stuff. I heard back from the collection development librarian
earlier in the week regarding image databases. It was a long email
and a lot of effort went into it, it was also really interesting, so
I wrote back to thank the librarian and made a few comments. They
said one of the best ways to convince a student to use a subscription
image database like Artstor rather than an image from Google, is to
zoom in really close on both images and show them how better the
resolution and quality is on the Artstor image. The librarians and
professors could use a bunch of technical jargon to explain why
Artstor is better, or they could the image speak for itself. A
picture is worth a thousand words, they say.
This afternoon the first grade class
that stood me up this morning showed up. I mentioned that it was a
pleasant surprise and when the teacher looked confused I pointed at
the schedule and said I had been expecting them hours ago. The
teacher started laughing at her own mistake because all day she had
been convinced it was Friday, which is a day they would have come in
the afternoon. Even funnier is that we don't even have school this
Friday. Later on she commented on how the recycling box I have at
the back of the room was empty and I told her I had a lot of time on
my hands this morning when she hadn't shown up.
I edited more baby pictures today
and made it to the final kid, of the pictures I have. I kind of got
tricked because the pictures were emailed to be but they weren't
originally digital, they are actually scans of physical pictures.
Whoever did that did a little editing so the color and everything
looks good but there are still all the little specks and scratches
and stuff that I need to take out. One of them also has a couple
fingerprint smears on it. Something that would probably be pretty
easy to clean off the physical print but will be a pain in the butt
to clean off the digital print. Oh well. I also sent an email to
the sixth grade teachers, updating them on which kids I still needed
pictures from. I think there are eight or nine kids left. Hopefully
they don't wait until the last minute but in the mean time I can get
started on making the slides and dumping them into my editing
program.
After work I got Chipotle and a
Powerball ticket on my way home. My mom got a new TV for the living
room so I moved the old one to her bedroom and set up the new one.
My back has already been hurting so I'm hoping I don't feel it too
much in the morning. I'm not feeling very confident but I did make
it through the whole day without the pain I was experiencing
yesterday. I used my heating pad tonight just in case.
After dinner and videos I went to
read a few articles for class but I was tired and only managed to get
through one article. It was about the accessibility of websites and
other electronic things, which I learned a lot about over the summer
in my web design class, so the reading was extra hard to get through.
It was still interesting but also boring at the same time, if that
makes sense. I'm hoping that I can knock out the last two articles
tomorrow but I might try and read the textbook chapters instead. Or
do both if I can get one or the other done before dinner. I also
need to write my discussion post for the week, which is due Friday.
I should probably put off some of the reading that isn't necessary
for the post until Friday, because I'll have all day to get it done.
We'll see how I'm feeling. I imagine tired but who knows.
And once again the night has gotten
away from me. It is after eleven o'clock and I am going to go to
bed. Last night when I went to bed I was instantly wide awake and
ended up laying there for way too long before falling asleep.
Fingers crossed I don't get a repeat of that tonight.
