I've got a headache so let's make this quick.
I woke up this morning and worked on the group website. I wrote a
bunch of stuff and made progress.
Then I got ready, ate lunch, and went to work. For the first part of
work I started coming up with lists of words that could be used as
appeal terms to describe story, character, language, and setting. I
then had the idea to use a Google Form to collect the data. The idea
is that after someone finishes a book they can go onto the staff
blog, open the form, put down the title and author of the book they
read, and then check off all the words in each category that
describes the book. I think I can then export that data and sort it
based on specific terms so we can match up books that share
similarities across those categories and create displays or make
reader's advisory suggestions with them. It's all sounding good in
theory. We just need to come up with a core set of words for each
category. Ones that are descriptive enough to be useful but not too
many because then it will become overwhelming. I'm kind of excited
to see if it will work.
I did other things today but it is kind of a blur, and it is hard to
think through my headache. Tonight there was a torrential downpour.
We only had a couple leaks, which I think is better than the last
time it rained. The streets surrounding the library looked more like
rivers because the drainage downtown has always been awful. That is
something to consider when looking at houses. That and how the power
seems to get knocked out easily. Anyway, I knew it was going to rain
but forgot my umbrella in my car. Thankfully the big downpour was
over by the time we closed and it was only raining normally by the
time we left. I put my notebooks inside my shirt and that was
sufficient to keep them dry, which I was glad to discover.
At work tonight, in between doing actual work, I wrote the first
three descriptions for my capstone portfolio. Which means I'm a
quarter of the way there. Hooray. I was going to write a few more
when I got home but the headache was already creeping up at work and
it only got worse when I got home. I am really hoping I can sleep it
off.
Tomorrow I have to wake up early because I have a health screening at
eight o'clock in the morning. I didn't know how long it would take
so I went safe with it and scheduled it two hours before I go to
work. Turns out it only takes about ten or fifteen minutes, so
that's annoying. As long as I don't still have a headache in the
morning I'll get over it.
Goodness. I just blinked and my eyes stayed closed for like thirty
seconds. I'm going to bed.
