I woke up early this morning and went to work. I had a productive
morning. I made another personalized reading list, which takes a
surprisingly long time when the person I'm making the list for reads
a lot of genres I do not. I still hope one of these people will
return their feedback sheet so I can see how I'm doing. I also put
my September tech classes on the official event calendar. So they're
official now. I had to come up with titles and descriptions that
will hopefully sound appealing to at least a few people. Although I
wouldn't mind if my first classes didn't have much attendance so I
could work up to that. I sent an email to my fellow librarians to
see if any of them wanted to teach one of the online resources class,
because my boss doesn't necessarily want me to teach all of the
classes, just come up with the ideas and the content. That will take
some of the pressure off of me. And hopefully I'll be able to
participate in some of the non-tech adult programming.
During lunch I worked on my blog posts. I can't remember the timing
of everything but at some point, I think after lunch, I managed to
finish my blog post on LIRT and I came really close to finishing my
post on GAMERT. I was technically doing schoolwork at work but I was
also technically doing work at work. I joined both of these round
tables after the conference because they both will make me a better
librarian and help me do better at my role of teaching tech classes
and trying to get younger adults to come into the library. So, I'm
doing research in order to write my blog entries but I am also
learning a lot about each round table and getting ideas for things I
want to try. I would consider it professional development.
I also helped patrons throughout the day, because that's kind of my
job, too. One of them was writing a paper about our reference
services for class. After talking to her I learned that she is in
her second semester of her MLS degree and the professor she is
writing the paper for is one of the professors that went to the
conference with us. I'm assuming it is his research class but now
that he is a full-time faculty member he may be teaching some other
ones. I also learned that this girl was also at the conference
because she got won a scholarship to cover her costs. Small world.
I did not accomplish much after work. I had dinner and then felt
exhausted the rest of the night. I should have done laundry but that
thought occurred to me after ten o'clock. I had some thoughts about
finishing my GAMERT blog but I think I am going to save that for the
morning. It would be nice to have it finished before work so I can
read over both of them after work before posting them. Then I can
spend tomorrow night working on the conference website that my
roommate and I are supposed to make.
In a perfect world the website, or at least my part of it, could be
finished by tomorrow, so I could have the rest of the week to work on
my capstone website. That obviously won't happen considering we only
have a basic idea for the site and haven't really divided up the work
yet, but I'll see what I can do. I also need to put in some time for
my practicum. I'm getting closer.
