More testing today. Fourth grade state assessments in the morning.
Fifth grade state assessments and second grade MAP testing in the
afternoon. One more week. In theory. During the fifth grade test I
had interesting conversations with the teacher. We covered a lot of
random stuff. Wisdom teeth, laundry, needles (fainting because of
them), teeth brushing, and at least a few other things that are
slipping my mind at the moment.
When I wasn't testing, I updating my MAP spreadsheet. I also worked
on a thing for class. In my last group project we are created a
resource guide for our target demographic and it is made up of
several pages, each covering a different information resource. I
thought it might look good to pretend we were making this for an
actual university so I designed a letterhead to put at the top of
every page. I still need to tweak it a bit but I think it looks
decent. I put it on the page I'm in charge of and I'm waiting on
feedback from the rest of the group to see if they think it is a good
idea.
Tonight I accomplished things but I could have been a lot more
productive. I emailed the head of HR from the university library
that I want to eventually do a practicum at. We spoke over the
weekend while I was down for class and she mentioned the possibility
of setting up some job shadowing opportunities to help me figure out
what area I'm more interested in. I am looking forward to that
because I am pretty sure I want to work in an academic library but I
have no academic library experience outside of being a patron so I
need to get it figured out.
I also emailed an assistant professor at the university I am attended
about possibly using my caution signs from the information literacy
assignment, on the university's library website. Our professor said
he might be interested in using some of our projects and that we
should email him if we wanted our projects to be considered. So I
did. I don't know if my signs would be of any use on the website but
I still like them so I figured it couldn't hurt to send them his way.
If he does use them, I'll be able to put that on my curriculum
vitae, and even if he doesn't use them, that's still one more person
that will hopefully get a laugh or two out of my signs.
I read half of a textbook chapter. It kept making me nod off so I
will finish the second half tomorrow night and then make my
discussion post. I could make my discussion post without finishing
the chapter but maybe there is something super interesting at the end
of the chapter that I could reference. So I'll wait. I also need to
finish up my page for the group project tomorrow. Summarizing
bibliographic resources and at least starting format the page. Not
everyone has posted yet so I obviously can't format everything, but I
can start.
I donated to the Red Cross tonight to support the relief effort for
Nepal after the devastating earthquake. Donating money seems like a
fairly insignificant act, especially considering the magnitude of the
disaster, but at the moment that is what I am able to contribute.
Donating money is my go-to when natural disasters strike. Maybe
sometime in the future I will be able to contribute more than just
money. For now it will have to do.
Tomorrow there will be more testing and hopefully wildly productive
academic achievements in terms of my class work. Fingers crossed.
