I did things today. After waking up I read a couple chapters in the
class book. I waited until after I woke up because it is kind of
difficult to read while sleeping. Following that I read through the
discussion post I wrote last night, edited it, and posted it.
I spent a couple hours today finding articles about library
orientation for my practicum. I ended up with nineteen of them but
haven't had a chance to read more than their abstracts. Those
articles along with the information I found on Friday should be
enough to cover what my supervisor asked me to look up. I'm going
back to the library tomorrow afternoon so tomorrow morning I should
be able to look through most of the articles and see which ones are
the most relevant.
I spent a decent amount of time organizing stuff for my capstone. I
didn't get around to actually picking artifacts for it but I created
a folder and dropped all of the syllabi from the different classes I
have taken so I don't have to track them down later. Then I created
individual folders for the eight program outcomes and four
professional values that I have to find an artifact for. The idea is
that I will go through my classes, one-by-one, and drop each
assignment into one or more of these folders if I think it is a good
example of one of the program outcomes or professional values. Then
I can go back through the folders and if there is more than one
assignment in a folder I can pick the best one. By the end of the
dividing process there should be at least one assignment in each
folder. Each of my final twelve artifacts has to be from a different
class, so I need to keep that in mind as I go along. I looked at a
couple examples of past capstone portfolios and they seem pretty
straight forward. Once I get the artifacts picked out it should all
be downhill. Once I have the portfolio built I then have to create a
screencast video of me going through the portfolio and talking about
it. That I'm not looking forward to.
I wrote a Thank You note to one of my professors who I have used for
a reference a few times, including for the public library job. I
don't know if she has ever been contacted but I appreciate her
willingness to be a reference and speak on my behalf. So I thought I
should tell her that, along with thanking her for being a good
professor. I wrote it with my Lamy Al-Star fountain pen because it
has the green ink, which came out super subtle on the brown card I
used, which I liked. I also broke out my rubber stamps and used the
big Peanuts one on the back of the envelope. It looks pretty
great. Now I just need to write a Thank You note to my friend's
parents who came to my graduation and gave me money.
Tonight I went with my mom to a giant pile of big rocks and loaded up
the back of her car with rocks. She had a rock pile in mind but
there really wasn't an easy way to get her car near it and I didn't
want to carry a bunch of big rocks up a steep hill, so I suggested
the pile I saw on Friday when we were looking at the house for me.
We had to go off-road but we were able to get a lot closer to it and
the ground was flat. We got a lot of rocks and when we got back to
the house immediately took a few of them out to the backyard to plug
up the spots in the fence where animals, namely a raccoon and
opossums, have been climbing under. Then we unloaded the rest of the
rock and piled it in the garage.
Tomorrow I don't have to be at the library until two o'clock in the
afternoon so I would like to wake up early and call the my doctor's
office and see if they happen to have a spot available in the
morning, or possibly early Tuesday morning. My left eyelid still has
a bump on it and I think is still noticeably darker than my other
eyelid. My vision still gets a little fuzzy late at night but it
isn't as bad as it was a month or two ago. Despite that, it doesn't
really seem to be getting that much better on its own. I really
should have called last week when I had more time. If I can't get in
tomorrow or Tuesday I'll have to cut into my practicum time or maybe
do it right before my Florida trip. I'll get it figured out.
Now I'm going to bed because it is after one o'clock in the morning.
Much too late if I want to actually wake up and be productive in the
morning.
