I went to bed late last night and it took me forever to fall asleep.
I got maybe five hours of sleep so that was great.
This morning we had our evacuation drill. The last couple of years I
have been driving down to our evacuation point with the librarian and
a few other people to help set up. This year I got a yellow vest and
an intersection to block off while the kids crossed. This was the
street the church was on that we were evacuating to, which was a
pretty decent walk from the school, so I ended up getting a ride with
the librarian again because I'm lazy.
I had two observations about the evacuation, both related to the fact
that it is spirit week at school and today was pajama day. The
first, the library clerk, who is an older lady, gets really into
spirit week and dressing up for things in general. Today she was
wearing her pajamas, a green robe, and her hair was messed up. She
rode with us to the church and I mentioned that it kind of looked
like we had abducted her from somewhere because none of the rest of
us in the car had participated in pajama day. The second, so many of
the kids were in pajamas, and with them all walking along the
sidewalk to the church, it looked like the orphanage had burned down
in the middle of the night.
I ended up only having one class in the lab throughout the entire
day. That made for a boring day. I fixed the printer in the SPED
lab but that was about it for productivity. I spent a lot of time
looking at reviews for office chairs. I switch back and forth
between two right now, one that is really old but has held up well,
and the other I got for my birthday a few years ago. I kind of want
to invest a little more money and get one that is built to be sat in
for long periods of time, because I spend a lot of time at my
computer. They have “gaming” ones now that are pricey but are
supposed to be really comfortable. The main selling points for me
are that you can rock back really far, which I like, and also recline
the back almost horizontal. I probably won't buy a new chair any
time soon because I'm also still interested in getting a sewing
machine, but it is fun to look.
We had an assembly this afternoon with the local college's women's
tennis team, with a surprise appearance from the mascot. The head
coach, who's kid goes to our school, got a grant for our school to
get tennis equipment so this was the kickoff to a week-long tennis
unit in PE. The most interesting thing about the tennis team was
that other than the assistant coach and one of the players, all the
other players and the main coach were from different countries.
Interesting.
For the rest of the afternoon, with no classes showing up to the lab,
I looked for articles for my research paper. I found some good ones,
and some that don't relate to my paper but I saved because I want to
read them later.
On my way home I stopped by Target to get a few things. Then I
didn't really do anything the rest of the night. I had lofty goals
of watching the hour-long webinar and summarizing it for class but
I'm freaking tired after so little sleep last night. So that's on my
list of things for tomorrow. It's not quite nine o'clock now but I'm
struggling to stay awake. Tomorrow will be better.
