Last night I ended up getting six hours of sleep because I moved my
alarm clock to 6:30AM. It was the right call. I was still tired
throughout the day but six hours of sleep sounds a lot better than
five and a half hours of sleep.
When I got to work I did all the normal opening stuff. And then
right before we opened there was a fire alarm test. Thankfully it
wasn't a drill, so we didn't have to leave the building, but I did
have to sit there for several minutes listening to a fire alarm.
It's not as loud as the one at the elementary school, however, so it
could have been worse.
I was the only librarian until noon so I was on desk for the first
two hours. In that time I was nearly able to finish my wi-fi
tutorial. I finished the layout, added all the text, fixed the
layout of the Table of Contents (because I decided to add another
item to the list when I was halfway through), and started adding
links. After lunch I was able to come back to it and get it all
finished. One more thing done.
After that I needed to take a break from the computer so I recycled
some batteries and then walked around and refilled empty stands on
displays. That's one of the things our department looks for on our
walkthroughs but I don't know if anyone else does it, even though
they should.
I was on desk for another two hours after that and that seemed to
drag on forever. I started reading the transcript of a class on
leadership I'm supposed to watch but I couldn't make it very far
because it is in the form of an interview and it is verbatim, so
there was a lot of “yeah” and “you know”. I couldn't take
it. I also read news articles, watched usability videos, and
infrequently helped patrons. I actually helped another patron today
with the law database, which is crazy because that's two people in
two days and I haven't seen anyone use it in months.
My last hour started with a walkthrough, during which time I stopped
by the teen anime party in the auditorium. The teen librarian called
me in as I was walking by. There were only three teens but there was
a lot of Japanese candy. I didn't eat any but it looked interesting.
I then talked with my boss about her idea of getting someone to come
talk to us about how to write book reviews, in order to help us
improve our newspaper articles. I found a book in our collection but
neither of us were really in the mood to do anything so we were
really just confirming that neither of us knew anyone we could ask.
When I got home, it was the same old thing. I ate dinner, watched
YouTube videos, clicked around the internet for awhile, and played
more of CoD: WW2 multiplayer. I completed three orders
tonight, which are daily challenges, and they required me to get
kills with the sniper rifle, a suppressed SMG, and an LMG. So I had
an interesting mix of gameplay. It is a little frustrating trying to
use a gun that isn't really suited to a particular map just to finish
the challenge, but it is also a nice excuse for when you play
horribly. Just blame it on the gun.
Now I'm going to record my audio journal so I can go to bed, because
that usually how these entries and my days end.
