June 30, 2015

Today, not productive. I woke up early again, but then watched a Jon Richardson standup special and afterward took a nap under my desk until lunch. So I probably could have done more.

This afternoon I watched a Sean Lock standup special along with several episodes of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and an episode of Jon Richardson Grows Up. While doing that I scanned more photographs. I've still got a several pages to go in the current photo album but I believe I have at least passed the halfway point. There are at least twelve pictures on each two-page spread and that usually involves three separate scans. So far for this book I have made 48 scans. I'm getting there.

Tonight I wanted to watch for the leap second on my computer but then I got distracted by something and didn't remember until it was seven minutes too late. I don't even remember what distracted me, so it was obviously pointless. Later on in the night I wanted to make a post to the discussion thread this week for my web design class. That turned into a more involved activity because I picked one guy's website and it wasn't responsive when the browser window was resized. And I got sucked into trying to figure it out. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why my website was responsive and the only thing I could really see was how I got my pictures and video to be responsive. I ended up copying the guy's HTML for his first page and his CSS page and put it into a program so I could mess with it and see what happened. I tried a whole bunch of stuff and ended up coming up with a partial solution. In his 'body' tag in his CSS he was missing a semicolon and I also added 'max-width: 100%', which I think did the trick. It still had a small horizontal scroll bar as soon as I made the browser smaller but it didn't get any bigger as I went smaller, if that makes sense. It was like something was always just off the screen no matter what size I adjusted it to. I could probably figure that out eventually but I had already spent way too much time on it so I posted my solution for him and called it good.

Tomorrow I would like to read some more stuff for class. That needs to be my goal before lunch, hoping that I am up and about early enough. If I save it until after lunch I don't accomplish much. It would be nice if I could set aside a specific time, and an amount of time, every day to devote to class stuff. Kind of like I was actually going to school. I just have way too much time on my hands at the moment and I give myself way too much time to accomplish things. In terms of my website, I would say that was a good thing because it looks a lot better than some of my classmates' websites, but in general, I need to stop putting stuff off and just get it done. We'll see if I still remember those words tomorrow.
